JuJu Smith-Schuster
JuJu Smith-Schuster Staying put in KC
Sat, Mar 15, 2025, 3:24 PM
The Chiefs are re-signing Smith-Schuster to a one-year contract, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Smith-Schuster initially joined Kansas City on a one-year deal last August and appeared in 14 regular-season games, tallying 18 receptions on 26 targets for 231 yards and two touchdowns. He then played in all three of the team's postseason contests and caught four of six targets for 76 yards. Kansas City lost DeAndre Hopkins in free agency early in the week, but Hollywood Brown was re-signed and Rashee Rice should be back in action at the start of next season after missing most of last year due to a knee injury, so Smith-Schuster probably isn't going to have a much bigger role in the Chiefs' offense than he did last year.
Kareem Hunt
Kareem Hunt Re-signs with Kansas City
Fri, Mar 14, 2025, 12:48 PM
The Chiefs are re-signing Hunt to a one-year, $1.5 million contract Friday, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
Analysis: Hunt joined Kansas City last September in the wake of an early-season IR stint for Isiah Pacheco due to a fractured fibula. He served as the team's starter for a stretch and then split backfield reps with Pacheco once the latter returned to the lineup, up through the Chiefs' loss to Philadelphia in Super Bowl LIX. Hunt concluded the regular season with 200 carries for 728 yards and seven scores across 13 appearances, plus 23 catches for 176 yards through the air (32 targets). A full offseason to get back to 100 percent form may allow Pacheco to reclaim a firm grasp on the lead role of the Chiefs' backfield, which also added speedster Elijah Mitchell in free agency, but Hunt's solid showing in 2024 figures to leave him in position for a solid amount of complementary snaps. The exact pecking order of Kansas City's rushing attack may not gain clarity until training camp and/or the preseason.
Bailey Zappe
Bailey Zappe Gets deal with Kansas City
Fri, Mar 14, 2025, 10:10 AM
The Chiefs signed Zappe to a one-year contract Friday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Zappe spent time as a reserve option at quarterback for Cleveland in 2024, completing 16 of 31 passes for 170 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in his lone spot start. With Gardner Minshew (collarbone) the clear favorite to back up Patrick Mahomes after signing with Kanas City on Thursday, Zappe finds himself once again competing for a third-string role. The Chiefs also have Chris Oladokun on the roster.
Gardner Minshew
Gardner Minshew Slated to back up Mahomes
Thu, Mar 13, 2025, 5:07 PM
Minshew (collarbone) has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chiefs, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The Raiders released Minshew (collarbone) on Wednesday with a failed physical designation, but just one day later the 28-year-old landed his next assignment, that of backing up star QB Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. In that context, Minshew will remain off the fantasy radar as long as Mahomes is available, but in the event that Mahomes misses any time in 2025, Minshew provides the Chiefs with an experienced and reliable backup option to turn to.
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes Restructures deal
Wed, Mar 12, 2025, 10:55 AM
Mahomes agreed Wednesday with the Chiefs on a restructure of his contract, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Mahomes and star defensive tackle Chris Jones both agreed to restructure their contracts Wednesday, freeing up a total of $49.4 million in cap space to help Kansas City maneuver in free agency. The team has already committed to a handful of key moves, including re-signing wideout Hollywood Brown to a one-year deal, placing the franchise tag on right guard Trey Smith and retaining linebacker Nick Bolton via a three-year contract. Mahomes remains signed through the 2031 season, and he'll enter the 2025 season with a reloaded supporting cast as the Chiefs work to bounce back from a disappointing 40-22 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
Robert Tonyan
Robert Tonyan Signing with Kansas City
Tue, Mar 11, 2025, 4:59 PM
Tonyan is slated to sign with the Chiefs, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Tonyan spent the majority of the 2024 regular season bouncing back and forth between the Vikings' practice squad and active roster before being cut in late November. He signed with the Chiefs' practice squad in late December, and although he was let go mid-January, he will return to Kansas City for the 2025 season. Tonyan will likely compete for the No. 3 tight end role behind Travis Kelce and Noah Gray in training camp.
Elijah Mitchell
Elijah Mitchell Finds new home in Kansas City
Mon, Mar 10, 2025, 11:56 AM
The Chiefs are in line to sign Mitchell (hamstring) to a one-year contract worth up to $3.5 million, Tommy Call III of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Mitchell missed his entire 2024 campaign with San Francisco after undergoing hamstring surgery last August, but he projects to be ready for the start of offseason activities with his new club. Across four years with the 49ers, the oft-injured Mitchell managed to suit up for only 27 of a possible 68 regular-season games, but he now finds an intriguing landing spot with a solid potential ceiling, should he manage to stay healthy and put his trademark speed to use. Kareem Hunt is a pending unrestricted free agent for the Chiefs, but Isiah Pacheco has one year remaining on his rookie deal, leaving Mitchell in likely position to handle a depth role.
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy Will not face charges
Sat, Mar 8, 2025, 6:21 PM
Worthy will not be charged following his Friday arrest in Williamson County, Texas, Tyler Davis of the Austin American-Statesman reports.
Analysis: Worthy was booked for assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation, which is a third-degree felony, but after authorities spoke with witnesses, the district attorney is not accepting the case at this time. Worthy's lawyers indicated it was an attempt at extortion by Worthy's accuser. It sounds like Worthy should avoid any sort of discipline from the NFL.
Hollywood Brown
Hollywood Brown Returning to Kansas City
Sat, Mar 8, 2025, 12:14 PM
The Chiefs signed Brown to a one-year deal worth up to $11 million on Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Brown missed most of the 2024 regular season due to a sternoclavicular joint injury that he suffered during the preseason. He was able to return in Week 16 against the Texans, and across the Chiefs' final five games of the 2024 campaign (including three playoff games), Brown accumulated 14 catches (on 28 targets) for 141 yards. With a full offseason under his belt, Brown will look to stay healthy and give Patrick Mahomes a speed-threat option in the passing game for the 2025 season.
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy Arrested Friday
Sat, Mar 8, 2025, 9:19 AM
Worthy was arrested Friday in Williamson County, Texas on an assault charge, Will Kunkel of Fox 26 Houston reports.
Analysis: According to the police report, the 21-year-old wide receiver faces a charge of assault against a family or household member by impeding breathing or circulation. The Chiefs issued a statement Saturday noting that they are aware of Worthy's arrest and are gathering more information on the matter, per Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com. No bond or court appearance has been set yet for Worthy.
Travis Kelce
Travis Kelce Confirms return for 13th season
Thu, Feb 27, 2025, 4:45 PM
Kelce confirmed via social media that he will play in 2025.
Analysis: Kelce had stated after the Super Bowl loss to the Eagles that he hadn't yet decided whether he'd continue his playing career for a 13th pro season, but Chiefs GM Brett Veach said at the NFL Scouting Combine this week that he expected the veteran tight end to return for another year. Kelce has now confirmed it and will formally announce it on his New Heights podcast this week. Kelce will turn 36 years old in October and is certainly slowing down at this stage of his career, but he's ready to give it another run with Kansas City. It will be interesting to see what his role looks like in 2025, especially with Rashee Rice (knee) due back to full health as the Chiefs' power slot receiver and the anticipated leap of Xavier Worthy in his second season following a big stretch run and postseason. Kelce's days as an elite fantasy tight end are likely over.
Hollywood Brown
Hollywood Brown Wanted back by Kansas City
Tue, Feb 25, 2025, 12:59 PM
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said Tuesday at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine that the team "will look to get [Brown] back," Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Brown, who missed the first 15 weeks of the 2024 season due to a sternoclavicular joint injury sustained during Kansas City's preseason opener, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year March 12. He combined for just 50 yards on five catches (13 targets) across three postseason appearances, but did post 91 yards on nine catches (15 targets) across his two regular-season games. Still heading into just his age-28 season, re-signing with the Chiefs could be Brown's most ideal scenario to retain notable fantasy value for the 2025 campaign. At 100 percent form, Brown's skillset as a vertical threat seemingly makes him an ideal playmaker to pair with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, though Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice (knee) will project to lead the Chiefs' wide receiver corps, in any case.
Travis Kelce
Travis Kelce Leaning toward return
Tue, Feb 25, 2025, 12:36 PM
Kansas City general manager Brett Veach said Tuesday that Kelce is "fired up" about playing in 2025, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. "We left it as, he'd be back and we're excited to get him back and get him going," Veach said at the NFL Combine.
Analysis: However, head coach Andy Reid suggested Tuesday that things might be more up in the air, per Nate Taylor of The Athletic, saying he advised Kelce to "get out of town and relax" before making a decision about his playing future. The 35-year-old tight end is heading into the final year of his contract, and he carries a $19.8 million cap hit for the 2025 season. Despite declining production in his 12th NFL season, Kelce's 97-823-3 receiving line across 16 regular-season appearances still made him one of the league's most productive tight ends in 2024.
Peyton Hendershot
Peyton Hendershot Five catches in 2024
Sun, Feb 16, 2025, 11:13 AM
Hendershot caught five passes on as many targets for 51 yards across seven regular-season games in 2024.
Analysis: Hendershot was traded by the Cowboys to the Chiefs in late August. He signed with Kansas City's practice squad mid-September after being waived from the 53-man roster, but Hendershot was brought back to the active roster in early November after Jared Wiley tore his ACL during practice. Hendershot was on injured reserve between Week 13 and 17 due to a calf injury, but he was activated from IR in late December and was part of the Chiefs' roster during their playoff run to Super Bowl LIX. Hendershot enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent and will look to join a team who can give him a more prominent role on offense.
Nikko Remigio
Nikko Remigio Records two catches in 2024
Sun, Feb 16, 2025, 11:02 AM
Remigio played in five regular-season games in 2024 and posted two catches (on six targets) for 48 yards while adding 295 kick return yards and 104 punt return yards. He added 301 kick return yards and 57 punt return yards across the Chiefs' three playoff games.
Analysis: Remigio spent the entire 2023 season on injured reserve due to a wrist injury that he suffered during training camp. He was unable to make the Chiefs' 53-man roster at the end of training camp in late August, but he opted to stick around and signed with the practice squad. Remigio was signed to the active roster in early December and made his NFL regular-season debut in Week 14 against the Chargers. He was mostly used as a return specialist in the eight games he appeared in across the regular season and playoffs, but he did play 30 offensive snaps in Week 18 against the Broncos. Remigio will look to improve during the offseason in order to earn a more consistent role in the Chiefs' offense for the 2025 season.
Carson Wentz
Carson Wentz Makes one start in 2024
Sun, Feb 16, 2025, 10:50 AM
Wentz finished the 2024 regular season completing 12 of 19 passes for 118 yards while logging zero rushing yards on three carries across three games (including one start).
Analysis: Wentz signed a one-year, $3.33 million contract with the Chiefs in April of 2024 after spending the second half of the 2023 campaign with the Rams. He came in relief for Patrick Mahomes in Week 7 and 15, but Wentz was named the starter for Week 18 against the Broncos after the Chiefs locked the AFC's No. 1 seed after beating the Steelers in Week 17. It was an unimpressive outing for Wentz, who completed 10 of 17 passes for 98 yards in a 38-0 blowout loss. The 2016 second-overall pick enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, and it remains to be seen whether he sticks around in Kansas City to continue to serve as the No. 2 QB or explore his options elsewhere.
Keaontay Ingram
Keaontay Ingram Inks future deal with Chiefs
Thu, Feb 13, 2025, 4:39 PM
Kansas City signed Ingram to a reserve/future contract Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Analysis: Ingram signed a one-year, $985,000 contract with the Chiefs in February of 2024 after spending the first two year of his NFL career with the Cardinals. He wasn't able to make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp in late August, but Ingram was signed to the active roster in mid-September after Isiah Pacheco was placed on injured reserve due to a fibula fracture. Ingram's only appearance of the 2024 season was Week 3 against the Falcons, and after being waived from the active roster Sept. 24 he opted to stick around by signing to the Chiefs' practice squad two days later. Ingram will be on the 90-man roster at the start of the new league year and will be able to participate in offseason training programs ahead of the 2025 season.
Justin Watson
Justin Watson Another decent season in KC
Thu, Feb 13, 2025, 1:29 PM
Watson claimed 22 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns on 32 targetsover 17 games during the 2024 regular season.
Analysis: While Watson hasn't tallied more than 27 catches in a season, he's still found regular playing time during his three campaigns with the Chiefs, likely due to his abilities as a blocker in the running game. Watson's two-year deal with the Chiefs expires after 2024, so he'll enter the offseason looking for a home for 2025 in his age 29 campaign. It's unlikely he'll find his way into fantasy relevance in future campaigns, but the veteran should claim a depth role somewhere again this offseason.
DeAndre Hopkins
DeAndre Hopkins Production declines in 2024
Thu, Feb 13, 2025, 1:19 PM
Hopkins totaled a combined 56 catches for 610 yards and five touchdowns between the Titans and Chiefs during the 2024 regular season.
Analysis: Hopkins was dealt to the Chiefs prior to the team's Week 7 contest against the Bills, and the veteran required a little time to get up to speed with the playbook over the first couple of games but compiled 39 grabs for 408 yards and four touchdowns over the final nine regular-season contests. He was held to just three catches for 39 yards over his three playoff tilts. The veteran wideout's contract voids Feb. 17, meaning Hopkins will likely enter unrestricted free agency again leading into his age 33 season in 2025. While he's unlikely to see a resurgence in his production back to his prime years, Hopkins should still find a home as a contributing veteran wideout somewhere, and he's just one year removed from a 1,000-yard receiving season in 2023 with the Titans.
JuJu Smith-Schuster
JuJu Smith-Schuster Ancillary role in 2024
Thu, Feb 13, 2025, 1:10 PM
Smith-Schuster racked up 18 catches for 231 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 26 targets during the 2024 regular season.
Analysis: Smith-Schuster inked a one-year deal with the Chiefs this offseason, hoping to rekindle some of the flames that saw him register 78 grabs for 933 yards and three touchdowns in 2022, but it wasn't in the cards for him this season. Smith-Schuster saw semi-regular action in games but wasn't a major factor for the Chiefs, even after Rashee Rice was lost for the season due to an LCL injury. The team instead traded for DeAndre Hopkins and coasted by the regular season, seeing a late-season return from Hollywood Brown to pair with rookie Xavier Worthy as the team's primary tandem during the postseason. Smith-Schuster reenters free agency this offseason unrestricted but seems unlikely to recapture his production from 2022 when the Chiefs sported a relatively barren wide receiver depth chart. He'll likely need to compete for regular playing time again at his next stop.
