Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley Working with knee brace
Tue, Jun 17, 2025, 12:03 PM
Wiley (ACL) is participating in positional drills at mandatory minicamp Tuesday with a brace on his right knee, Sports Radio 810 WHB reports.
Analysis: Head coach Andy Reid said in April that Wiley, who tore his ACL during practice early last November, is doing well in his recovery. It's encouraging that he's already been cleared to take part in individual drills, but the 2024 fourth-round pick may still not be fully cleared for training camp or Week 1. Noah Gray remains positioned as the No. 2 tight end behind Travis Kelce for Kansas City, so once fully recovered Wiley will likely find himself competing with Robert Tonyan for the No. 3 gig.
Gardner Minshew
Gardner Minshew Throwing at OTAs
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 12:50 PM
Minshew (collarbone) has been pictured throwing at Kansas City's voluntary OTAs, Charlie Riedel of the Citrus County Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Minshew appears fully recovered from the season-ending broken collarbone that limited him to 10 regular-season appearances (nine starts) with the Raiders in 2024. The veteran journeyman is secure as the No. 2 quarterback behind superstar Patrick Mahomes after signing a one-year deal with the Chiefs in March, with Bailey Zappe and Chris Oladokun battling it out for third-string duties. In the event that Minshew were to see any significant action in relief of Mahomes in 2025, his experience and the presence of pass-catchers Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown and TE Travis Kelce should allow him to pilot coach Andy Reid's offensive scheme to productive ends.
Rashee Rice
Rashee Rice Full-go at voluntary OTAs
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 1:09 PM
Rice (knee) was a full participant in voluntary OTAs on Wednesday, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Rice missed Kansas City's first week of OTAs due to an illness, but the third-year pro is now back with the team and showing no signs of still being hampered by the season-ending surgery he underwent last October to repair the LCL in his right knee. Head coach Andy Reid previously said in April that Rice was on track to get an essentially complete offseason, while quarterback Patrick Mahomes said in late May that the explosive wideout had been working without limitations, so it comes as no surprise to see him now participating in full. A 2023 second-round pick, Rice followed up his excellent rookie season with a phenomenal start to the 2024 campaign, racking up a 24-288-2 receiving line in Weeks 1-3 before injuring his knee just seven snaps into Week 4. It's possible Rice's ongoing legal situation (and likely suspension) aren't resolved until 2026, but he now faces tougher target competition with Xavier Worthy having developed entering Year 2, Travis Kelce returning for a 13th season and Hollywood Brown healthy and having re-signed.
Skyy Moore
Skyy Moore Taking part in OTAs
Fri, May 30, 2025, 6:18 PM
Moore (abdomen) has been participating in Chiefs' OTAs this week, John Dillon of Chiefs Wire reports.
Analysis: Moore was inactive for the Chiefs' Super Bowl loss to the Eagles due to the injury, but he's healthy again after appearing in just six contests last season. Moore was inactive from Week 8 onward in 2024 and is likely running out of chances in Kansas City as he heads into the final year of his rookie contract.
Isiah Pacheco
Isiah Pacheco Adds weight, looking healthy
Thu, May 29, 2025, 2:53 PM
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Thursday that Pacheco "looks tremendous" at OTAs and has "put on some good weight," Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports.
Analysis: Pacheco missed Week 3 through Week 12 last season due to a broken fibula and looked like a shadow of his usual self when back in action, averaging just 3.4 YPC across Kansas City's five remaining regular season games and three playoff contests. When healthy Pacheco is an explosive, physical ball carrier capable of overrunning would-be tacklers, as demonstrated by his 4.9 YPC and 4.6 YPC averages in 2022 and 2023. An offseason to return to full form should securely position Pacheco atop the Chiefs' running back depth chart, especially in the wake of the team's decision to forego early-round additions to the position in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Chiefs re-signed Kareem Hunt and added Elijah Mitchell in free agency, both to one-year deals, and added Brashard Smith in the seventh-round of April's draft, but all three backs seem more likely to push for complementary snaps than an actual committee if Pacheco can indeed return to 100 percent strength.
Rashee Rice
Rashee Rice Absent due to illness
Thu, May 29, 2025, 1:55 PM
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Thursday that Rice (knee) is "under the weather" and has been instructed to remain away from the team for this week of voluntary OTAs, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports.
Analysis: Rice has missed Kansas City's first group of voluntary OTAs from May 27-29 due to an illness, but he may still be able to participate June 2-4 and/or June 10-13, after which the team will host mandatory minicamp June 17-19. Reid said Rice is making progress in his recovery from the season-ending right knee injury he sustained in Week 4, while quarterback Patrick Mahomes said the third-year wideout "looks explosive and fast" and appears to be working with "no limitations," per Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com. It remains to be seen whether Rice is yet cleared for live contact, but it's encouraging to see that he's looked quick in on-field drills so far. Rice's ability to rack up yards after the catch gives him potential to be featured even in the Chiefs' crowded receiving corps, though the potential of a suspension in 2025 or 2026 still looms.
Keaontay Ingram
Keaontay Ingram Reverts to IR
Fri, May 16, 2025, 6:14 PM
Ingram (undisclosed) reverted to injured reserve Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Analysis: The Chiefs waived Ingram with an injury designation Thursday, and after clearing waivers, the 25-year-old was placed on IR. The USC product got into just one game for Kansas City last season, logging five special-teams snaps and no offensive snaps. Ingram will miss the 2025 campaign unless he works out an injury settlement with the Chiefs.
Rashee Rice
Rashee Rice Participating in voluntary OTAs
Wed, Apr 23, 2025, 12:57 PM
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said Wednesday that Rice (knee) "looks really good" and is "running routes" and "catching the football" at voluntary OTAs, Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports reports.
Analysis: Mahomes acknowledged that it remains unclear "how much [Rice will] be able to do" at the start of mandatory minicamp in June, but he expressed encouragement that the standout wide receiver's injury occurred early enough in the 2024 season that "he's going to get pretty much a complete offseason." Coach Andy Reid has already stated that Rice is considered on track for training camp, so while Kansas City may continue taking a cautious approach to the 2023 second-round pick's recovery, he's expected to be fully healthy well ahead of Week 1. That said, Rice remains a candidate to face league discipline related to his involvement in a high-speed, multi-vehicle hit-and-run that occurred in Dallas over one year ago.
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley Recovery going well
Mon, Apr 21, 2025, 4:28 PM
Head coach Andy Reid told reporters Monday that Wiley (knee) is "doing well," Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
Analysis: Wiley tore his ACL during practice early in November of 2024, limiting him to just seven regular-season appearances. In those contests, the TCU product played 88 offensive snaps and caught his only target for seven yards. While Reid did not provide a precise timetable for Wiley's return, the 24-year-old appears to be on track to return for the start of Kansas City's 2025 campaign.
Rashee Rice
Rashee Rice On track for training camp
Wed, Apr 2, 2025, 11:30 AM
Coach Andy Reid said Tuesday that Rice (knee) is "on track to be ready" for training camp in July, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Rice's recovery from right knee surgery to address a season-ending injury sustained Week 4 continues to proceed well. All signs point to the 2023 second-round pick reaching full health well ahead of the start of the 2025 regular season, though he could still face a potential suspension related to his involvement in a hit-and-run car crash that occurred last March. In the three games he played fully last season, Rice emerged as Kansas City's clear top receiving option, racking up 24 catches for 288 yards and two scores. It will be interesting to see what role Rice now finds himself in, with Travis Kelce returning for a 13th season, Xavier Worthy heading into Year 2, and Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster both having re-signed with the Chiefs.
JuJu Smith-Schuster
JuJu Smith-Schuster Staying put in KC
Sat, Mar 15, 2025, 3:24 PM
The Chiefs are re-signing Smith-Schuster to a one-year contract, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Smith-Schuster initially joined Kansas City on a one-year deal last August and appeared in 14 regular-season games, tallying 18 receptions on 26 targets for 231 yards and two touchdowns. He then played in all three of the team's postseason contests and caught four of six targets for 76 yards. Kansas City lost DeAndre Hopkins in free agency early in the week, but Hollywood Brown was re-signed and Rashee Rice should be back in action at the start of next season after missing most of last year due to a knee injury, so Smith-Schuster probably isn't going to have a much bigger role in the Chiefs' offense than he did last year.
Kareem Hunt
Kareem Hunt Re-signs with Kansas City
Fri, Mar 14, 2025, 12:48 PM
The Chiefs are re-signing Hunt to a one-year, $1.5 million contract Friday, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
Analysis: Hunt joined Kansas City last September in the wake of an early-season IR stint for Isiah Pacheco due to a fractured fibula. He served as the team's starter for a stretch and then split backfield reps with Pacheco once the latter returned to the lineup, up through the Chiefs' loss to Philadelphia in Super Bowl LIX. Hunt concluded the regular season with 200 carries for 728 yards and seven scores across 13 appearances, plus 23 catches for 176 yards through the air (32 targets). A full offseason to get back to 100 percent form may allow Pacheco to reclaim a firm grasp on the lead role of the Chiefs' backfield, which also added speedster Elijah Mitchell in free agency, but Hunt's solid showing in 2024 figures to leave him in position for a solid amount of complementary snaps. The exact pecking order of Kansas City's rushing attack may not gain clarity until training camp and/or the preseason.
Bailey Zappe
Bailey Zappe Gets deal with Kansas City
Fri, Mar 14, 2025, 10:10 AM
The Chiefs signed Zappe to a one-year contract Friday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Zappe spent time as a reserve option at quarterback for Cleveland in 2024, completing 16 of 31 passes for 170 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in his lone spot start. With Gardner Minshew (collarbone) the clear favorite to back up Patrick Mahomes after signing with Kanas City on Thursday, Zappe finds himself once again competing for a third-string role. The Chiefs also have Chris Oladokun on the roster.
Gardner Minshew
Gardner Minshew Slated to back up Mahomes
Thu, Mar 13, 2025, 5:07 PM
Minshew (collarbone) has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chiefs, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The Raiders released Minshew (collarbone) on Wednesday with a failed physical designation, but just one day later the 28-year-old landed his next assignment, that of backing up star QB Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. In that context, Minshew will remain off the fantasy radar as long as Mahomes is available, but in the event that Mahomes misses any time in 2025, Minshew provides the Chiefs with an experienced and reliable backup option to turn to.
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes Restructures deal
Wed, Mar 12, 2025, 10:55 AM
Mahomes agreed Wednesday with the Chiefs on a restructure of his contract, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Mahomes and star defensive tackle Chris Jones both agreed to restructure their contracts Wednesday, freeing up a total of $49.4 million in cap space to help Kansas City maneuver in free agency. The team has already committed to a handful of key moves, including re-signing wideout Hollywood Brown to a one-year deal, placing the franchise tag on right guard Trey Smith and retaining linebacker Nick Bolton via a three-year contract. Mahomes remains signed through the 2031 season, and he'll enter the 2025 season with a reloaded supporting cast as the Chiefs work to bounce back from a disappointing 40-22 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
Robert Tonyan
Robert Tonyan Signing with Kansas City
Tue, Mar 11, 2025, 4:59 PM
Tonyan is slated to sign with the Chiefs, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Tonyan spent the majority of the 2024 regular season bouncing back and forth between the Vikings' practice squad and active roster before being cut in late November. He signed with the Chiefs' practice squad in late December, and although he was let go mid-January, he will return to Kansas City for the 2025 season. Tonyan will likely compete for the No. 3 tight end role behind Travis Kelce and Noah Gray in training camp.
Elijah Mitchell
Elijah Mitchell Finds new home in Kansas City
Mon, Mar 10, 2025, 11:56 AM
The Chiefs are in line to sign Mitchell (hamstring) to a one-year contract worth up to $3.5 million, Tommy Call III of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Mitchell missed his entire 2024 campaign with San Francisco after undergoing hamstring surgery last August, but he projects to be ready for the start of offseason activities with his new club. Across four years with the 49ers, the oft-injured Mitchell managed to suit up for only 27 of a possible 68 regular-season games, but he now finds an intriguing landing spot with a solid potential ceiling, should he manage to stay healthy and put his trademark speed to use. Kareem Hunt is a pending unrestricted free agent for the Chiefs, but Isiah Pacheco has one year remaining on his rookie deal, leaving Mitchell in likely position to handle a depth role.
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy Will not face charges
Sat, Mar 8, 2025, 6:21 PM
Worthy will not be charged following his Friday arrest in Williamson County, Texas, Tyler Davis of the Austin American-Statesman reports.
Analysis: Worthy was booked for assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation, which is a third-degree felony, but after authorities spoke with witnesses, the district attorney is not accepting the case at this time. Worthy's lawyers indicated it was an attempt at extortion by Worthy's accuser. It sounds like Worthy should avoid any sort of discipline from the NFL.
Hollywood Brown
Hollywood Brown Returning to Kansas City
Sat, Mar 8, 2025, 12:14 PM
The Chiefs signed Brown to a one-year deal worth up to $11 million on Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Brown missed most of the 2024 regular season due to a sternoclavicular joint injury that he suffered during the preseason. He was able to return in Week 16 against the Texans, and across the Chiefs' final five games of the 2024 campaign (including three playoff games), Brown accumulated 14 catches (on 28 targets) for 141 yards. With a full offseason under his belt, Brown will look to stay healthy and give Patrick Mahomes a speed-threat option in the passing game for the 2025 season.
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy Arrested Friday
Sat, Mar 8, 2025, 9:19 AM
Worthy was arrested Friday in Williamson County, Texas on an assault charge, Will Kunkel of Fox 26 Houston reports.
Analysis: According to the police report, the 21-year-old wide receiver faces a charge of assault against a family or household member by impeding breathing or circulation. The Chiefs issued a statement Saturday noting that they are aware of Worthy's arrest and are gathering more information on the matter, per Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com. No bond or court appearance has been set yet for Worthy.
