Involved at minicamp
Fri, Jun 12, 2026, 4:33 PM
Simmons was seen participating in the Chiefs' minicamp Friday, Jesse Newell of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The 2025 first-round pick missed multiple games during his rookie season due to personal issues and then suffered a season-ending wrist injury in Week 13 against the Cowboys. Simmons is now back on the field for minicamp and appears ready to protect Patrick Mahomes in the 2026 season.
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy Impresses coach during minicamp
Fri, Jun 12, 2026, 11:51 AM
Coach Andy Reid noted Thursday that Worthy (shoulder) looked good at this week's minicamp, Jesse Newell of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: While Worthy (who is in the final stages of his recovery from a shoulder procedure he underwent in January to repair his labrum) sported a no-contact jersey during the minicamp which concluded Thursday, his efforts nonetheless caught the eye of Reid. "Xavier really had a nice camp," Reid said of the 2024 first-rounder. "Stronger -- that's the part that you like. You really see it. We put him in a lot of the primary positions, and I thought he did a nice job with all of it." Next up for Worthy and the Chiefs will be training camp next month, at which point he may be able to shed his non-contact jersey. He's coming off a 2025 regular season in which he recorded a modest 42-532-1 line on 73 targets through 14 contests, but Worthy acknowledges that the shoulder injury he sustained on the first drive of the campaign hampered his effectiveness. Assuming no setbacks ahead of Week 1, Worthy could be poised for a bounce-back season in 2026 while working as a key option in Kansas City WR corps that is also in line to feature fellow returnee Rashee Rice (knee), with the likes of Tyquan Thornton, Jalen Royals and Cyrus Allen in the mix as well.
Dealing with shoulder injury
Thu, Jun 11, 2026, 6:19 PM
Delane has a shoulder injury and had to miss multiple minicamp sessions, Pete Sweeney of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Chiefs coach Andy Reid confirmed the injury after Thursday's session, per Sweeney. At the same time, Reid said Delane would be ready for training camp. The first-round pick projects as a starter for Kansas City in his rookie campaign.
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes Expected back for camp?
Thu, Jun 11, 2026, 10:08 AM
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Thursday that Mahomes (knee) should "be able to do some things in camp," Nate Taylor of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Reid also said Mahomes is "on course to get ready for camp", though "the healing process has to keep taking place." It's mostly coach-speak, but overwhelmingly positive, which meshes with previous favorable reports on Mahomes' rehab from mid-December surgery to repair ACL and LCL tears. He's been limited to individual drills and 7-on-7s at OTAs, allowing Justin Fields to take first-team reps.
Rashee Rice
Rashee Rice May be ready for training camp
Thu, Jun 11, 2026, 9:51 AM
Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters Thursday that he thinks Rice (knee) will be ready for the start of training camp, Nate Taylor of ESPN.com reports. "I think [Rice] will be," Reid said. "He gets out [of jail] next week. We'll see where it goes. He'll be back up here and working."
Analysis: Rice is recovering from arthroscopic surgery in a Dallas County jail, with a scheduled release date of June 16 (Tuesday). He had the minor procedure in May to remove loose debris from his right knee, shortly before he was sentenced to 30 days in jail for violating probation with a positive THC test. The Chiefs seemingly expect Rice to be back at full strength before Week 1, but there is still risk for an NFL suspension in response to his recent probation violation. Reid mentioned that Rice has been able to rehab in jail while maintaining contact with Chiefs head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder, per Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com.
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes Chiefs add two years to contract
Wed, Jun 10, 2026, 3:32 PM
Mahomes (ACL) and Kansas City agreed to terms Wednesday on a deal that amends two additional years to his contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Mahomes' new deal keeps him under contract with the Chiefs through the 2033 season and carries a total value of $504.75 million, providing the 30-year-old quarterback an average salary of $64 million per season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Per Pete Sweeney of the Kansas City Star, Mahomes continued to participate in 7-on-7 drills at mandatory minicamp this week while rehabbing from a torn ACL and LCL suffered in Week 15 of last season, but he remained sidelined during 11-on-11 drills. It remains to be seen when Mahomes will be cleared to resume handling full-team reps, but by all accounts his offseason recovery continues to proceed on schedule.
Exploring trade options
Tue, Jun 9, 2026, 9:20 PM
The Chiefs and OT Wanya Morris agreed to explore trade options Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Morris has spent his entire three-year career in Kansas City but is looking to join a new team where he could see more playing time. The 25-year-old landed on the injured reserve last December with a knee injury but is now healthy again and participating in organized team activities.
Reunites with Kansas City
Mon, Jun 8, 2026, 4:07 PM
Sneed (quadriceps) is slated to sign with the Chiefs, per NFL reporter Jordan Schultz.
Analysis: Sneed was dealt from the Chiefs to the Titans in March of 2024, but after two seasons in Tennessee, he's decided to return to Kansas City. The 29-year-old struggled with injuries during his time with the Titans, appearing in just 12 of a possible 34 regular-season games. Most recently, Sneed missed Tennessee's final 10 contests in 2025 due to a quadriceps injury. However, his intention to sign with the Chiefs suggests he's moved past that issue. With Jaylen Watson and Trent McDuffie both joining the Rams this offseason, Sneed will likely step in and operate as one of Kansas City's top boundary corners during the 2026 season.
Played through broken hand in 2025
Wed, Jun 3, 2026, 7:13 PM
Defensive line coach Joe Cullen said Wednesday that Karlaftis played multiple games with a broken hand in 2025, Pete Sweeney of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Despite the serious injury he apparently sustained prior to Week 11 at Denver, Karlaftis only missed one game last season, sitting out in Week 18 when the Chiefs were already eliminated from playoff contention. Now fully healthy, he projects to again play a huge role on the edge for Kansas City in 2026.
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes Limited to 7-on-7 work at OTAs
Thu, May 28, 2026, 1:12 PM
Mahomes (knee) has been participating in OTAs this week in a limited capacity, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
Analysis: As expected, Mahomes hasn't been cleared for 11-on-11 work, as he continues his rehab from a torn ACL and LCL suffered in Week 15 of last season. Still, Mahomes' progress has been impressive, and he looks to be well ahead of schedule with an eye toward being ready for Week 1 of the 2026 campaign.
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy Had offseason shoulder surgery
Thu, May 28, 2026, 1:08 PM
Worthy (shoulder) has been limited at OTAs this week after he underwent offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Matt Foster of KSHB Kansas City reports.
Analysis: Worthy is doing individual drills and wearing a yellow non-contact jersey at practice this week. The 23-year-old suffered a serious shoulder injury on the third offensive snap of the season in the Chiefs' Week 1 loss to the Chargers last September and missed the following two contests. He dealt with the torn labrum for the entire 2025 campaign and finished his second NFL season with a meager 42-532-1 receiving line on 73 targets across 14 regular-season appearances. With Rashee Rice dealing with legal issues and Travis Kelce set to turn 37 years old this season, the Chiefs need Worthy to stay healthy and take a significant third-year leap.
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes On the field for OTAs
Tue, May 26, 2026, 5:46 PM
Mahomes (knee) participated in the Chiefs' opening OTA practice Tuesday, Nate Taylor of ESPN reports.
Analysis: While the extent of Mahomes' participation wasn't revealed, the Chiefs did post a video of the QB making a throw on the field, while sporting a brace on his left knee. Mahomes is bouncing back from surgery that he had Dec. 15 to repair the torn ACL and LCL in his left knee, with his recovery ongoing. Still, his participation in Tuesday's session, in any capacity, is encouraging nonetheless. Mahomes' stated goal is to be ready for Week 1 action, with Taylor noting that in recent weeks, the Chiefs have expressed optimism that their star signal caller will be in uniform Sept. 14 against the Broncos.
Rashee Rice
Rashee Rice Had knee procedure last week
Tue, May 19, 2026, 6:28 PM
Rice underwent a clean-up surgery on his right knee last week, which is expected to sideline the wideout for two months, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Analysis: Per the report, the procedure was done to remove loose debris in Rice's knee -- which did not have any structural damage -- that was causing him inflammation. Rice is expected to be ready for training camp later this summer. Earlier Tuesday, ESPN reported that Rice was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail after testing positive for marijuana in violation of the terms of his probation for his role in a crash that left multiple people injured on a Dallas highway two years ago. Rice is set to be released June 16 and is thus not in line to be present for the Chiefs' upcoming voluntary practices, as well the team's mandatory minicamp, which is set to conclude June 11.
Rashee Rice
Rashee Rice Violates probation
Tue, May 19, 2026, 1:46 PM
Rice was placed in custody Tuesday and sentenced to 30 days in jail for violating terms of his probation with a positive test for THC, Matt Foster of KSHB reports.
Analysis: Rice is scheduled to be released June 16, ruling him out for the rest of Kansas City's offseason program. An NFL suspension may be coming this summer, with Rice unlikely to get much sympathy after violating the terms of his probation from the same arrest that led to his six-game suspension to open the 2025 campaign. The league also looked into domestic-violence allegations against Rice at the beginning of the offseason, ultimately citing "insufficient evidence" in early April.
Kenneth Walker III
Kenneth Walker Could catch more passes with Chiefs
Tue, May 5, 2026, 8:34 PM
Walker suggested Tuesday that he might have an opportunity to catch more passes with the Chiefs than he did with the Seahawks, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: On the heels of being named the most valuable player of Super Bowl LX, Walker inked a lucrative three-year deal to lead Kansas City's backfield this coming season. Edholm notes that Walker earned a reputation as a run-first back during his four-year stint with Seattle, but the 2022 second-rounder -- who logged 31 catches in 17 regular-season games in 2025 -- has reportedly been spending time with QB Patrick Mahomes (who is bouncing back from a December ACL/LCL injury) this offseason in anticipation of a potentially expanded role as a pass-catcher. "We've been working on getting connected in the passing game and everything, so that's good," Walker said. "I feel like I'll be used more in the pass game." Either way, as the clear-cut RB1 for his new team, Walker figures to be busy out of the gate this coming season, while Mahomes works his way back to form. Competing for complementary work behind Walker will be a pair of newcomers in rookie Emmett Johnson and free agent addition Emari Demercado, as well as 2025 seventh-rounder Brashard Smith.
Signs with Chiefs
Mon, May 4, 2026, 2:05 PM
Kansas City signed Loyd on Monday.
Analysis: Loyd (6-foot-2, 196 pounds) inks with the Chiefs following a successful tryout at the team's rookie minicamp in late April. He appeared in 13 games with Missouri in 2025 and totaled two catches for 21 yards while handling a depth role. Loyd previously spent time at Illinois State in 2024 and at Kansas State from 2021-23.
Emmett Johnson
Emmett Johnson Draws LeSean McCoy comp from Reid
Mon, May 4, 2026, 11:05 AM
Johnson is competing with Brashard Smith and Emari Demercado for slotting on Kansas City's running back depth chart behind Kenneth Walker, Grant Gordon of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: The Chiefs almost completely remade their backfield compared to last season, letting Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco walk while retaining the 2025 seventh-round pick Smith, and signing Walker and Demercado before drafting Johnson in the fifth round. Kansas City also signed undrafted free agents Jaydn Ott and EJ Smith. Demercado and Brashard Smith both seem best suited for change-of-pace roles on passing downs, so Johnson could have a clear lane to getting the second-most carries behind Walker. Head coach Andy Reid compared Johnson's skill set to that of former NFL running back LeSean McCoy, who exceeded 1,000 regular-season rushing yards on six occasions.
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes Expected to participate in OTAs
Sat, May 2, 2026, 8:48 PM
Mahomes (knee) is expected to participate in Kansas City's OTAs, beginning May 26, Nate Taylor of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Mahomes was present for the team's voluntary workouts in April but was still limited solely to rehabbing his surgically repaired ACL and LCL. He'll now progress to the next step in his rehab, as he'll participate in at least some capacity with his teammates during the team's voluntary offseason workouts. While that's a positive step, coach Andy Reid did acknowledge that Mahomes will remain limited. Both Mahomes and the Chiefs continue to publicly state that the goal is for Mahomes to be ready to suit up in Week 1.
EJ Smith
EJ Smith Signed with Kansas City
Fri, May 1, 2026, 4:00 PM
The Chiefs signed Smith as an undrafted free agent Friday.
Analysis: Smith played four years at Stanford before transferring to Texas A&M for his final two seasons. The running back participated in 24 games for the Aggies, collecting 98 rush attempts for 412 yards and four touchdowns over the span. The Chiefs' offseason signing of Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker means they're set atop the depth chart, and Smith will therefore have to fight with multiple other options in training camp to garner a roster spot come final cuts.
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott Headed to Kansas City
Fri, May 1, 2026, 3:55 PM
The Chiefs signed Ott as an undrafted free agent Friday.
Analysis: Ott played three years at California before transferring to Oklahoma for his senior season. The running back suffered a shoulder issue entering the 2025 season that led to him seeing meaningful snaps in only two games. The Chiefs are likely taking a flyer on Ott due to his 2023 season at California, where he rushed 245 times for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns and added 26 receptions for 321 yards and three touchdowns. Ott's standout sophomore campaign suggests he has a shot to be a meaningful producer at the NFL level if he can avoid the injury bug.
