Xavier Worthy Taking it day by day with shoulder
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 1:22 PM
Coach Andy Reid said Monday the team is taking it "day by day" with Worthy's dislocated shoulder, Pete Sweeney of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: "I know Xavier's the big question, and he's rehabbing and working his shoulder," Reid said. "We'll just see where it goes day by day here - see where we end up." Reid was careful with his words, refusing to commit to a firm timetable for the second-year receiver. For what it's worth, Adam Schefter of ESPN said Monday that Worthy is likely to miss some time. Fantasy players will need to closely monitor Worthy's practice habits in the coming days and weeks. If Worthy is unable to play Week 2, Kansas City likely will roll with Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Tyquan Thornton as its top three receivers versus Philadelphia.

Xavier Worthy Likely to miss time
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 12:14 PM
Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN stated Worthy (shoulder) will probably miss a little bit of time and be viewed as week-to-week.
Analysis: Worthy suffered a dislocated shoulder three snaps into Friday night's eventual loss to the Chargers when he and Travis Kelce collided over the middle of the field. It's now sounding like Worthy is going to miss time, perhaps multiple games with that week-to-week outlook. With Worthy missing most of Week 1 and Rashee Rice serving his six-game suspension to open the season, Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Tyquan Thornton paced the Chiefs' wide receivers in playing time. Brown was particularly involved, turning 16 targets into a 10-99-0 line.

Xavier Worthy Sustains dislocated shoulder Friday
Sun, Sep 7, 2025, 8:38 AM
Worthy suffered a dislocated shoulder during Friday's 27-21 loss to the Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but the Chiefs haven't yet determined how much time the receiver will miss, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Worthy sustained the injury on the Chiefs' opening drive of the game, when he took on the brunt of a violent collision with teammate Travis Kelce. The wideout is set to receive a second opinion on his injury before the team has a clearer idea on how long he might be sidelined, but Rapoport relays that the most likely option is that Worthy gets fitted for a supportive brace on his shoulder that will allow him to return at some point this season. However, if Worthy receives unfavorable news from his upcoming second opinion, surgery could still be in the cards for the second-year receiver. The loss of Worthy for any length of time would leave the Chiefs further shorthanded at receiver, as top target Rashee Rice won't be eligible to make his season debut until Week 7 while he serves a league-imposed six-game suspension.
Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith Contributes in return game
Sat, Sep 6, 2025, 4:02 PM
Smith returned two kickoffs for 63 yards during Kansas City's 27-21 loss to the Chargers on Friday night.
Analysis: Smith impressed in the return game Week 1, but the rookie seventh-round pick wasn't called upon to handle any actual carries, and he played just eight percent of offensive snaps. Still, it's encouraging to Smith's prospects that Elijah Mitchell was a healthy scratch Friday. Smith figures to operate as the No. 3 running back behind Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt again in Week 2 against the Eagles.
Noah Gray
Noah Gray Secures only target in Week 1 loss
Sat, Sep 6, 2025, 3:34 PM
Gray brought in his lone target for three yards during the Chiefs' 27-21 loss to the Chargers on Friday night.
Analysis: Gray played 41 percent of offensive snaps behind top tight end Travis Kelce, but even with Xavier Worthy (shoulder) being forced off the field after three snaps and Rashee Rice (suspension) unavailable, Gray's target share didn't notably increase. He'll again contribute behind Kelce as Kansas City prepares for a Super Bowl rematch against the Eagles in Week 2.
Tyquan Thornton
Tyquan Thornton Makes two grabs in Chiefs debut
Sat, Sep 6, 2025, 3:07 PM
Thornton secured two of four targets for 41 yards during the Chiefs' 27-21 loss to the Chargers on Friday night.
Analysis: Thornton recorded the second-highest yardage total of his NFL career in his first regular-season appearance with Kansas City, playing 72 percent of offensive snaps and operating as a starter in three-wide sets alongside Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster. With Rashee Rice (suspension) unavailable for the first six games of the year, Thornton had already been facing increased opportunities, but it was Xavier Worthy (shoulder) being forced out after just three offensive snaps that bumped Thornton into a starting role in three-wide sets. If Worthy and Jalen Royals (knee) aren't ready to return Week 2 against the Eagles, Thornton will be primed for a similar opportunity.
Kareem Hunt
Kareem Hunt Ties Pacheco for rushes and targets
Sat, Sep 6, 2025, 11:02 AM
Hunt rushed five times for 16 yards and secured two of three targets for 10 yards during the Chiefs' 27-21 loss to the Chargers on Friday night.
Analysis: Hunt and Pacheco split touches evenly Week 1, but neither found much room to run against a stout Los Angeles defensive front, as both finished with under 30 total offensive yards. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes in fact led the ground game in terms of both opportunities and production, rushing six times for 57 yards and one score. Hunt profiles to operate as the No. 2 backfield option behind Pacheco at home against the Eagles in Week 2, a Super Bowl rematch that could see the Chiefs lean increasingly on the rushing attack due to Rashee Rice (suspension) being out and the status of Xavier Worthy (shoulder) uncertain.
JuJu Smith-Schuster
JuJu Smith-Schuster Five catches to open season
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 11:00 PM
Smith-Schuster brought in all five targets for 55 yards in the Chiefs' 27-21 loss to the Chargers on Friday night.
Analysis: The veteran wideout took advantage of the opportunity created by the early first-quarter departure of Xavier Worthy (shoulder), finishing as a distant runner-up across the board to Hollywood Brown in receiving metrics. Smith-Schuster was slated to serve as the No. 3 receiver to open the season due to Rashee Rice's suspension, but Worthy's injury, if it carries over into a Week 2 home showdown against the Eagles, could lead to Smith-Schuster operating in a No. 2 role again.
Isiah Pacheco
Isiah Pacheco Limited touches in Week 1 loss
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 10:56 PM
Pacheco rushed five times for 25 yards and brought in two of three targets for three yards in the Chiefs' 27-21 loss to the Chargers on Friday night.
Analysis: The Chiefs were down by a touchdown after one quarter and trailed throughout, which played a part in Pacheco seeing a modest workload. Additionally, backfield mate Kareem Hunt matched Pacheco's carry total, while Patrick Mahomes paced the Chiefs with both his six rush attempts and 57 rushing yards. Despite Friday's usage, Pacheco still profiles as Kansas City's top running back heading into a Week 2 Super Bowl rematch with the Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy Getting MRI on Saturday
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 10:55 PM
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said after Friday's loss to the Chargers that the team doesn't have an update on Worthy (shoulder) aside from sharing that the wideout will get an MRI on Saturday, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
Analysis: Worthy hurt his shoulder Friday in a friendly fire incident with teammate Travis Kelce in the first quarter. The wideout left the field in apparent pain and was ruled out not long thereafter. The Chiefs have nine days until their next game (Sunday, Sept. 14 against Philadelphia), but if Worthy isn't able to get well enough to play by then, the team would be left with Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster as the top receivers, with Tyquan Thornton, Jason Brownlee, Nikko Remigio and possibly Jalen Royals (knee) adding depth at the position.
Hollywood Brown
Hollywood Brown Massive volume in Week 1 loss
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 10:52 PM
Brown brought in 10 of 16 targets for 99 yards in the Chiefs' 27-21 loss to the Chargers on Friday night.
Analysis: Brown led the Chiefs in receptions, receiving yards and targets, and Xavier Worthy's exit from the game on the fourth play from scrimmage due to a shoulder injury certainly played a part in the former's boost in opportunity. While Brown's mostly short-area role left him just short of the 100-yard mark despite the significant catch volume, he did record a game-long 49-yard reception. Brown's chemistry with Patrick Mahomes was certainly encouraging after the veteran wideout missed the majority of the 2024 regular season due to a sternoclavicular injury, and his hefty workload could come close to being replicated in a Super Bowl LIX home rematch with the Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 14 if Worthy is sidelined for that game.
Travis Kelce
Travis Kelce Finds end zone in Week 1 loss
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 10:44 PM
Kelce secured two of four targets for 47 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' 27-21 loss to the Chargers on Friday night.
Analysis: It was shaping up as an utterly forgettable night for Kelce until his early fourth-quarter 37-yard touchdown grab, as he had just one catch for 10 yards until that point and had collided with teammate Xavier Worthy on the fourth play from scrimmage, causing a shoulder injury that forced the latter's exit from the game. Kelce's score therefore served as the only highlight of his night, and with Worthy out, both Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster outpaced the talented tight end in targets. Kelce could well see an increase in opportunity during a Week 2 home Super Bowl LIX rematch against the Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 14, especially if Worthy remains sidelined for that marquee contest.
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes Solid all-around numbers in loss
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 10:39 PM
Mahomes completed 24 of 39 passes for 258 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions and added six rushes for 57 yards and another score in the Chiefs' 27-21 loss to the Chargers on Friday night. He also recovered a fumble.
Analysis: Mahomes quickly lost his most explosive playmaker when Xavier Worthy went down with a shoulder injury just four plays into the game. The two-time MVP battled throughout the rest of the contest while repeatedly leading the Chiefs from behind, and he offered some hope with an 11-yard touchdown run and 37-yard scoring strike to Travis Kelce in the third and fourth quarter, respectively. In the absence of Worthy, Mahomes recorded completions to seven different targets, focusing the bulk of his attention on Hollywood Brown (10-99-0) and JuJu Smith-Schuster (5-55-0), who were the targets on 21 of his pass attempts. Following this season-opening stumble, Mahomes and the Chiefs will have to quickly turn their focus to a Super Bowl LIX rematch with the Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium in a Week 2 matchup on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy Ruled out Friday
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 7:58 PM
Worthy (shoulder) won't return to Friday's game versus the Chargers in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Analysis: Worthy took a hit directly to his right shoulder from TE Travis Kelce on the first drive of the contest while running an underneath route. He was in visible pain as he went to the sideline and then was escorted off the field and immediate to the X-ray room before being ruled out. With Rashee Rice suspended for the first six games of the season and Jalen Royals (knee) inactive, the Chiefs are left with Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Tyquan Thornton, Jason Brownlee and Nikko Remigio for the rest of Week 1.
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy Exits Friday's game
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 7:22 PM
Worthy is questionable to return to Friday's game against the Chargers in Sao Paolo, Brazil due to a shoulder injury.
Analysis: Worthy was a victim of some friendly fire on the Chiefs' opening possession when he was sideswiped by TE Travis Kelce on an underneath route. He remained down for a bit before making his way to the sideline in visible pain. After team trainers checked him out, Worthy then made his way to the locker room.
Tyquan Thornton
Tyquan Thornton Could contribute in Rice's absence
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 6:14 PM
Thornton is a candidate to see added work early on this season, with Rashee Rice (suspension) set to miss the Chiefs' first six games, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: In Rice's absence, Xavier Worthy is in line to have a high profile in the passing offense, while Hollywood Brown and Thornton also figure to factor in, per Rapoport. Thornton earned a roster spot with a strong training camp, and now the speedster has a chance to make his mark out of the gate this season. Also in the team's WR mix are veteran option JuJu Smith-Schuster, with Jason Brownlee and Nikko Remigio on hand as well.
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley Sitting out Week 1
Fri, Sep 5, 2025, 6:12 PM
Wiley (coach's decision) is inactive for Friday's game against the Chargers, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
Analysis: Wiley appeared in seven regular-season games for the Chiefs as a rookie in 2024, though he saw only 97 total snaps. He slipped behind Robert Tonyan on the depth chart this offseason and will begin 2025 on the inactive list.
JuJu Smith-Schuster
JuJu Smith-Schuster Could be key piece early
Thu, Sep 4, 2025, 1:05 PM
Smith-Schuster could be counted upon for an expanded role in Friday's regular-season opener against the Chargers, Bobby Kownack of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: Smith-Schuster, Hollywood Brown and Tyquan Thornton are all candidates for significant action Friday. Those receivers are next in line for opportunities behind Xavier Worthy while Rashee Rice serves a six-game suspension to begin the season, and rookie fourth-round pick Jalen Royals (knee) has been ruled out. Smith-Schuster had only 231 regular-season receiving yards with Kansas City in 2024, a far cry from the 933 he managed in his first year with the Chiefs in 2022.
Jalen Royals
Jalen Royals Ruled out for Week 1
Wed, Sep 3, 2025, 8:32 AM
Royals (knee) is ruled out for Friday's regular-season opener against the Chargers and will not travel with the team to Brazil.
Analysis: Coach Andy Reid previously said he didn't expect Royals to be available Week 1, so his being ruled out doesn't come as a surprise. Kansas City didn't hold a practice session Wednesday, but he was a non-participant Tuesday due to lingering knee tendinitus. The rookie fourth-round pick's next chance to play will arrive Week 2 at home versus the Eagles. With Rashee Rice suspended the first six games of the season, Royals will have a path to compete with JuJu Smith-Schuster for snaps behind Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown once fully healthy.
Jalen Royals
Jalen Royals DNP on Tuesday
Tue, Sep 2, 2025, 1:49 PM
Royals (knee) did not practice Tuesday, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
Analysis: Coach Andy Reid already said last week that he didn't expect Royals to be available to play in Friday's Week 1 opener against the Chargers. The rookie wideout is dealing with knee tendinitis. With Rashee Rice also out due to suspension, Kansas City's top wideouts against Los Angeles are expected to be Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
